After 41 years on Fremont Street, the Western Hotel & USA Casino Online will be closing its doors come January 16, 2012.

Tamares Real Estate has closed several properties around downtown Las Vegas in the past such as the at present demolished Ambassador East Motel which sat on a huge lot directly across from the Western. All that remains today in that lot is the sign. The Queen of Hearts Hotel is at present just a memory as it has since been demolished to make way for the new court house. Thankfully, its sign was saved and rests peacefully at the Neon Museum. The Nevada Hotel & USA Casino Online located on Main Street across from the Greyhound bus station was another property Tamares’ closed. Its sign, again [thankfully] was donated to the Neon Museum. The former Nevada Hotel building appears to have been occupied/purchased by its neighbor, the Golden Nugget as it got a fresh paint job this year which matches that of the Golden Nugget’s. The GN also placed several wraps or banners around the building advertising gaming and such at, you guessed it- the Golden Nugget. I am unsure if the former hotel rooms inside the building are being used or if the building is just ad space.

The fellowship [Tamares] said the clousure of the Western may not be "permanent" as they are looking over redevelopment plans, but I won’t hold my breath. We’ll see what happens…

I will give Tamares some credit as earlier this year they did add some positivity downtown with the revampment of the Plaza Hotel & USA Casino Online by changing out the furniture in the rooms, adding new restaurants and activities while keeping the same classic look on the outside of the building.
